Those looking to combine history with a culinary experience should head to Billesley Manor, a grade II listed Elizabethan building, said to be the location where The Bard wrote his popular comedy, As You Like It. Set in eleven acres of parkland, the manor itself is now a hotel, spa and restaurant, where guests can enjoy quality dining in The Stuart Restaurant, The Great Hall, and the As You Like It bar. Serving modern British cuisine from locally-sourced ingredients, you can expect a seasonally-inspired menu, alongside a superb selection of wines.
Napton Cidery
Napton-on-the-Hill
This family-run cidery started out as a hobby, with farm owners Charlotte and Jolyon trying their hand with fruit from the single apple tree on their property. This progressed to a mission to upcycle unwanted apples from surrounding areas, and has now grown into a successful business which presses over 90,000 litres per year. Be sure to pay a visit to the cidery, and enjoy local products at the taproom and shop, and experience a true taste of the countryside. With a range of events occurring throughout the year, you can book your place on cider talks and tastings, ploughman’s lunchtimes, and taproom comedy clubs. You can even hire the taproom for private events of up to 80 people, ideal for birthdays, work events and wedding parties.
The Cross
Kenilworth
The historic town of Kenilworth is the ideal day out, with attractions such as Kenilworth Castle and gardens the perfect place to spend the afternoon. While you’re in the area, serious foodies can experience Andreas Antona’s Michelin-starred restaurant The Cross, an award-winning pub which has been showered with praise. As well as holding a Michelin star for the past six years, it also boasts three AA rosettes and received a Good Food Award Gold Seal in 2021. Guests can sample a tempting three course lunch menu, three course à la carte menu or superb tasting menu, all inspired by the season. Combining elevated British cuisine with an informal setting, it’s well worth a visit. Booking is of course advised, with reservations accepted for up to six months in advance.

Whether you’re a connoisseur or a novice, you’ll find something for you at Sheldon Wine Cellars. Their mission is to provide a range of wines to suit all tastes and budgets, with a particular focus on Bordeaux, white Burgundy and Champagne, although they stock a range of wines from around the globe. Browse the shop, or book onto one of their cellar tours or wine tasting events for a true wine education. Founded back in 1842, you can expect plenty of history as you tour the cellars and also enjoy an informal tasting of four wines. They also specialise in party catering, and can supply an extensive range of choices, alongside advice on the best wines to suit your menu.
